What a Marketing Consultant Does

The plan and the person behind it

A marketing consultant reads what the business already does to find customers, decides which three or four efforts deserve time and money, and writes the order in which to run them. The consultant does not have to run every channel. The consultant does have to make sure someone does.

That is the gap I see most often. The owner has a marketing plan from an audit or a workshop, the plan is good, and nobody is assigned to the first step. The plan sits in a folder, and the next quarter's spend goes out the same way as the last.

Marketing Consulting Services

Where the plan starts

Each engagement starts from the marketing that already exists. The services below are the parts I use most often, and the scope names which apply to your business.

Marketing audit and priorities

A read of the current efforts, the leads they bring in and the gaps, ranked so the first three fixes are obvious.

Channel plan

Which channels to run, which to pause and what each one must show before the next budget is set.

Budget and spend review

Where each dollar of marketing spend goes now, what it returns and which lines have no owner.

Handoff to the people who run it

A named owner, a checklist and a date for each step, written so staff or a vendor can start without a meeting.

Monthly readout

A plain report of what ran, what it produced and what changes next, with every figure traced to its source.

Why a Marketing Audit Alone Stalls

A report with no next step

An audit answers what is wrong. It rarely answers who fixes it, in what order, or what the fix should show by a set date. Owners who buy one usually end up with a list of twenty items and a week of guilt before the next busy season.

I write the audit so it ends in a plan with owners. Every recommendation has a step, a person and a check, and anything without those three is cut from the document before you see it.

Marketing Consulting Process

How the engagement runs

The process is the same for a small firm and a larger one, and each step ends with something you can open and read.

  1. Step 01

    Read what exists

The current efforts, the reports, the accounts and the customer questions, with each gap written down.

  2. Step 02

    Set three priorities

The three changes with the most effect on leads and revenue, each with an owner and a check date.

  3. Step 03

    Write the plan

One document: the channels, the order, the budget lines and the handoff notes for each step.

  4. Step 04

    Hand off each step

Each owner gets a checklist and a start date, and I stay on the calls until the first step runs.

  5. Step 05

    Read the results monthly

The readout compares each step with what it was meant to do, and the next month's order is set from that.

Marketing Strategy for Local Businesses

Local demand first

Most businesses in the Valley win customers from people within driving distance who search on a phone. The plan therefore starts with the local searches, the neighborhoods the business serves and the reviews customers already leave, before any national channel gets a dollar.

I write the local part of the plan from what a customer actually types and sees. Anything that depends on a claim about rankings is left out, because no one can promise that and a plan built on it will not hold up.

Brand Consistency Review

The message before the spend

Marketing spend multiplies whatever message is already in place. If the name, the offer and the photos disagree across the website, the listings and the printed materials, paid traffic only makes the disagreement louder.

For GIOSTAR, a clinic, I built a live brand hub so the website, posts and print pieces pull the same colors, type and rules. The same review fits any local business with more than one place a customer can see it.

GIOSTAR: the clinic website, booking and lead tracking

I built and run giostarwellness.com for a regenerative medicine and wellness clinic in Henderson: every service page, online booking, financing and a blog. A website lead is tracked end to end, from the form to a booked consult to an active patient, with no manual steps. I also built its live brand hub, so every page, post and print piece pulls the same colours, type and rules.

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we ended up working with Justin for some AI consulting on how to structure our operations. He laid out a clear plan, didn't overcomplicate it, and we've been running smoother since. Good fit for a service business. He knows Las Vegas and he knows this stuff.

Justin joined our team a few months before opening to replace a marketing agency that wasn’t performing. He stepped up fast. Within weeks he launched a fully redesigned website with new brand guidelines, built and delivered our marketing plan and AI strategy, and helped implement our system architecture so we could open on time. Since then, he’s made several critical enhancements to the site that helped us generate revenue in our first month. His engagement was supposed to end at opening, but he became such an integral part of our leadership team that we kept him on to help evolve our marketing and tech strategy as we grow. He’s easy to work with, pushes back when it matters, and moves easily between strategy, delivery, and operations depending on what’s needed. If you’re looking for a deeply experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated marketing, AI, or technology consultant, I highly recommend Justin Harris AI Consulting.

Knew Justin before he started building AI systems for businesses, and watching what he's put together is genuinely impressive. He built out an AI automation setup for my website in Las Vegas and it changed how we handle leads completely. The guy actually runs this stuff himself, so he knows what works.

When a Marketing Consultant Is the Wrong Choice

When a full-time marketer fits

A consultant is the wrong choice when the business needs someone running the work every day, such as answering comments, managing a live campaign or building content on a fixed calendar. In that case a full-time marketer, or a contractor for the doing, is the better fit.

I say so on the first call. If the plan is done and only the doing is left, the handoff notes are the deliverable, and you do not need me on a retainer to keep them current.

What Changes a Marketing Consulting Quote

What moves the scope

I quote a fixed price for a written scope after a first look at the current marketing. Two businesses of the same size can need very different plans, so a price list would be wrong for both.
