Chief AI Officer
AI work with one owner
Chief AI officer work gives a business one owner for every AI use, without a full-time executive hire. I keep the register, set the rules and report the results to the owner each month.

What a Chief AI Officer Does
The owner of every AI use
A chief AI officer is accountable for how a company uses AI: which uses it approves, what data each one touches, who checks the results and what happens when a tool fails. The title only helps if the seat holds real decisions behind it.
A small business rarely needs the title. It does need the decisions, held by someone with the time to make them. That is the seat I offer, part time, with the decisions written down and reported to the owner.

Fractional Chief AI Officer Services
The AI work I take on
These are the parts of the seat that come up most often. The scope names which ones apply and how many days a month each one needs.
AI portfolio register
One list of every AI tool and workflow in use, with an owner, the data it touches and the result it must show.
Use-case selection
A ranked choice of the next AI uses worth doing, with the cost to run each one and the check that will show it worked.
Tool and vendor review
Each AI vendor compared on data handling, exit terms and the staff time it needs, with the reasons in writing.
Data and access rules
A short written standard for what data may go into which tool, who can use it and how it is removed.
Staff training on the tools
Training tied to a named use case, so each person learns the tool for the job they do.
Results reporting
A monthly readout that reads each AI use against its target, with stopped uses listed beside the working ones.
Why AI Work Ends Up Scattered
AI spread across staff
Each person in the office adopts a tool that saves them an hour. Within a year the business runs on a dozen subscriptions, two of them hold customer records, and nobody can say which staff member set up which workflow.
The owner then asks a simple question, what is AI doing for the business, and gets five answers that disagree. The work was never bad. It was never owned, so it could not be checked.

AI Portfolio Register Sample
Every AI use in one list
| AI use | Owner | Data it touches | Result to report | Review date |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Draft replies to new leads | Office manager | Contact details, stated need | Reply time per lead | 30 days after launch |
| Transcribe and summarize calls | Operations lead | Call audio and notes | Hours saved per week, errors found | 60 days after launch |
| Draft social captions | Marketing lead | Published posts only | Posts approved without rewrite | Quarterly |
| Internal document search | Owner | Staff documents, no customer data | Searches that found the answer | Quarterly |
Ownership and Decision Rights
Who approves an AI change
Every AI use has four decisions that need a named person: whether it starts, whether it changes, what data it may touch and whether it stops. The owner keeps the last word on each. The register shows who holds the other three.

- Approving a new AI use before any staff member starts it
- Changing the data a tool may read or write
- Stopping a use that is failing or no longer checked
- Spending on a new seat, plan or vendor contract
AI Strategy for Service Businesses
A strategy built from the register
A strategy written before anyone knows what AI is already doing tends to describe the wish list. I start with the register, then write the strategy from what it shows. The first strategy is short: the three uses worth keeping, the two worth stopping and the one worth testing next.
A Las Vegas service owner put the practical side plainly in a Google review: 'He actually understands how AI automation works at a practical level, not just the theory.' Katelyn H. wrote that, and it describes how I try to work.

AI Governance for Small Business
Rules before the tools spread
Governance for a small business is a short written standard, not a binder. It says which data may enter which tool, how customers are told when an AI tool is used in their service, who reviews output before it goes out and where records are kept.
I set the standard and keep it current. Whether the standard meets the law for a regulated practice is your counsel's call, and I will bring those questions to them rather than answer them.

Chief AI Officer Cadence
The monthly AI review
The seat runs on a steady rhythm so new AI requests do not arrive by surprise. Each step writes its output into the register.
- Step 01
Weekly AI intake
A short list of new requests from staff, each sorted into approve, test, defer or decline with a reason.
- Step 02
Quarterly register review
Every use is read against its result, and any use without a current owner or check is stopped or reassigned.
- Step 03
Monthly results readout
A written report for the owner on what each AI use produced, what it cost to run and what changes next.
Recent AI Work for Service Businesses
What I have actually built
I have set up AI systems for Las Vegas service businesses, and the clearest documented case is GIOSTAR. Devin R., who runs the clinic, wrote that I built and delivered its marketing plan and AI strategy.
Clients describe the same habit from another angle. Mickey S. wrote that I really know my stuff when it comes to AI consulting. GIOSTAR is a single clinic, not a register of enterprise AI programs, and I do not claim the second from it.

GIOSTAR: the clinic website, booking and lead tracking
I built and run giostarwellness.com for a regenerative medicine and wellness clinic in Henderson: every service page, online booking, financing and a blog. A website lead is tracked end to end, from the form to a booked consult to an active patient, with no manual steps. I also built its live brand hub, so every page, post and print piece pulls the same colours, type and rules.

AI Consulting Reviews

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we ended up working with Justin for some AI consulting on how to structure our operations. He laid out a clear plan, didn't overcomplicate it, and we've been running smoother since. Good fit for a service business. He knows Las Vegas and he knows this stuff.

Justin joined our team a few months before opening to replace a marketing agency that wasn’t performing. He stepped up fast. Within weeks he launched a fully redesigned website with new brand guidelines, built and delivered our marketing plan and AI strategy, and helped implement our system architecture so we could open on time. Since then, he’s made several critical enhancements to the site that helped us generate revenue in our first month. His engagement was supposed to end at opening, but he became such an integral part of our leadership team that we kept him on to help evolve our marketing and tech strategy as we grow. He’s easy to work with, pushes back when it matters, and moves easily between strategy, delivery, and operations depending on what’s needed. If you’re looking for a deeply experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated marketing, AI, or technology consultant, I highly recommend Justin Harris AI Consulting.

He approached each project with thoughtfulness, expertise, and a genuine drive to deliver meaningful results. He combines sharp technical knowledge with a practical, solutions-oriented mindset, which makes him especially effective in the AI space. After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we reached out to Justin for some AI consulting advice on where our service business could actually use automation. He was straightforward about what made sense and what didn't. Ended up being a useful conversation. Las Vegas has no shortage of people claiming to be experts, and he's one of the few who could back it up.

Knew Justin before he started building AI systems for businesses, and watching what he's put together is genuinely impressive. He built out an AI automation setup for my website in Las Vegas and it changed how we handle leads completely. The guy actually runs this stuff himself, so he knows what works.

When a Chief AI Officer Seat Is Wrong
When to hire full time
A part-time seat is the wrong choice when AI runs every day across customer work and needs a full-time owner in the building. It is also wrong when the company already has an AI lead who simply lacks the time, because the answer then is a shorter scope for that person, not a second owner.
I say so on the first call. The clean handoff, when a seat ends, is the register itself: every use, its owner, its data and its last result, written down for whoever comes next.

Chief AI Officer Scope and Cost
What sets the seat's days
I quote a fixed price for a written scope. The number of AI uses in the register and the days a month the seat needs are the two largest drivers, so the scope is the quote.

- How many AI uses exist already and how many need a check
- How many staff use AI tools and need training
- How many vendors and data sources the register covers
- Whether the monthly readout goes to an owner, a board or a lender
