What I run for a store

Dispensary advertising is a narrow field. The big search and social platforms restrict cannabis ads, so the work starts with a list of channels that are open to the category, and then builds the campaigns, creative and tracking inside those channels.

Every campaign has a rule set before it spends. The rules cover the platform's policy, the state's advertising rules, any local ordinance and the audience the store can show an ad to. A campaign that cannot meet those rules does not run, however strong the numbers look elsewhere.

Dispensary Advertising Cost

What moves the budget

I quote a fixed price for the management work after the audit, so the number you agree to is the number you pay. The ad budget is a separate line you approve. These are the factors that move the management price.

GIOSTAR brand hub, a system I built
  • How many channels the audit finds open to the category
  • Creative that has to be produced and reviewed against the rules
  • Tracking that must be connected to visits and orders
  • The number of locations and separate campaigns per store
  • How often the reporting has to match the store's records

Best Dispensary Advertising Channels

Where a store can spend

The channels available to a dispensary change with platform policy and with state rules, so the table below describes the kinds of channels I check, not a promise that any one stays open. The audit confirms which ones are usable for your store on the day it is written.
Channel typeUsual statusWhat I checkHow I track it
Search adsRestricted on the major platformsCurrent platform policy and the store's licenseStore visits and orders by campaign
Social adsRestricted, with THC products prohibitedCurrent platform policy for each product typePlatform events matched to the order system
Listings and directoriesGenerally open, with content rulesEach directory's rules for cannabis businessesVisits from listing to store page

Where Cannabis Ads Are Restricted

The platform and state limits

Google's cannabis content policy keeps most cannabis business ads off its platform, and Meta bans ads that promote the sale of THC products. Those platform rules are checked before any campaign is planned, and they change, so the check is repeated before each new channel.

Nevada's cannabis regulator sets its own advertising rules, and its guidance covers advertising that appeals to children and the audience a store can reasonably expect. Nevada law also lets local governments adopt stricter advertising rules, so a campaign that is allowed in one city can be restricted in another.

Work I built, live where you can check it

Every build below is real and every link goes to the live work. Two of the five are full websites I built and still run. The other three are brand and content work, two of them for sites that are in build now, and each card says which.

Dispensary Advertising Strategy

Spend set against orders

A dispensary ad budget should be judged against the visits and orders it brings in, not against the platform's click count. A campaign that produces many clicks and few visits has failed, even when its dashboard looks busy.

So I set each channel a cost limit based on what a visit or an order is worth to the store. A channel that clears the limit keeps its budget, and a channel that does not is cut or changed under the rules.

Dispensary Advertising Creative Rules

What an ad can and cannot show

Creative for cannabis businesses has limits on what it can show and promise. Product imagery, claims about effects and anything that appeals to children are restricted or prohibited on many channels. The creative I write describes the store, the location and the hours, and stays inside the platform's written rules.

Every creative goes through the same check before it is published: the platform policy, the state rule and the local rule. Compliance is the store's counsel's call, and I will not sign off on a creative as compliant.

A storefront street in the Valley
  • No product imagery where the platform or state restricts it
  • No claims about effects, health or treatment
  • No content that appeals to minors or uses characters and mascots
  • Store name, location and hours stated plainly
  • A written check against each rule before publication

How Dispensary Advertising Gets Measured

Measurement starts with the store's own records. Order records, visit questions at the register and call tracking are the connections that make an ad's result visible. Platform events are useful, but I check them against the store's records before I trust them.

Campaigns that cannot be connected to a visit or an order are not scaled. The audit names which connections the store can support, and the reporting says where a link is missing.

Spend traced to visits and orders

Order records

Online orders matched to the campaign or channel that produced them, where the store's order system allows it.

Register questions

A simple visit question at the register, recorded in the store's system, to connect a visit to the channels it came from.

Call tracking

A tracked phone number on each channel, so each call is traced to the campaign that produced it.

Cost per visit

Spend divided by the visits each channel produced, compared against the cost limit set for that channel.

Have You Worked With Cannabis Advertisers

The closest work I can show

I have not run paid advertising for a licensed cannabis dispensary, so I do not claim a dispensary advertising case. The closest work I have is social content for Quotible, which is creative production and not ad buying in a restricted category.

The portfolio band above shows the five builds, and the reviews band shows what clients wrote. Neither is a dispensary ad result.

An owner at work in a modern office

Dispensary Advertising Reporting

A monthly readout in the store's numbers

The monthly readout shows each open channel, the spend against it, the visits and orders it produced where records allow, and the changes made under the rules. The owner can see which channel earns its cost without a call.

A channel that cannot be measured is reported as unmeasured, not as a success. That keeps the budget honest when a platform's numbers look better than the register.

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we ended up working with Justin for some AI consulting on how to structure our operations. He laid out a clear plan, didn't overcomplicate it, and we've been running smoother since. Good fit for a service business. He knows Las Vegas and he knows this stuff.

Justin joined our team a few months before opening to replace a marketing agency that wasn’t performing. He stepped up fast. Within weeks he launched a fully redesigned website with new brand guidelines, built and delivered our marketing plan and AI strategy, and helped implement our system architecture so we could open on time. Since then, he’s made several critical enhancements to the site that helped us generate revenue in our first month. His engagement was supposed to end at opening, but he became such an integral part of our leadership team that we kept him on to help evolve our marketing and tech strategy as we grow. He’s easy to work with, pushes back when it matters, and moves easily between strategy, delivery, and operations depending on what’s needed. If you’re looking for a deeply experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated marketing, AI, or technology consultant, I highly recommend Justin Harris AI Consulting.

Knew Justin before he started building AI systems for businesses, and watching what he's put together is genuinely impressive. He built out an AI automation setup for my website in Las Vegas and it changed how we handle leads completely. The guy actually runs this stuff himself, so he knows what works.

Dispensary Advertising Process

How a campaign is built

Every engagement runs the same steps, and the rule set is written before any ad is built or any budget is released.

  1. Step 01

    Check the rules

The platform, state and local rules are reviewed for each channel the store might use before anything is planned.

  2. Step 02

    Set the channels and limits

Open channels are chosen and each one gets a cost limit based on what a visit or an order is worth.

  3. Step 03

    Build and review creative

Each ad is written and checked against the rules, with the check recorded before it is published.

  4. Step 04

    Connect the tracking

Visits, calls and orders are tied to each channel, and any missing connection is written into the readout.

  5. Step 05

    Run, test and report

Channels under their limit keep their budget. The rest are cut or changed, and the monthly readout shows each decision.

Dispensary Advertising Constraints

Limits that shape the plan

Dispensary advertising is shaped by platform policy, state rules, local ordinances and the audience a channel can reach. Each one can close a channel, so the plan is built to fit inside all four.

These are marketing considerations, not legal advice. The store's counsel decides whether a campaign is compliant, and I recommend that review before any new channel goes live.
