Custom Web Design

Custom, Not a Re-Skinned Theme

I do custom web design myself: I design each site from your buyer and your brand, build it so your team can edit it and show you what every page does.

Custom Website Design

Paid for custom, got a theme

Custom is the most abused word in web design. A principal pays for a custom site, and what arrives is a purchased theme with the logo swapped, the colors changed and the stock photos replaced. It looks fine on launch day. Then a competitor turns out to have the same layout, because the same theme is sold to thousands of sites.

Owners describe a second problem. The site was custom in the sense that nobody could edit it. Every change needed the designer, who had a ticket system and a queue. The firm paid for ownership and received dependence.

Custom Website Design Mistakes

Dependence on the designer

A third is that nobody could say whether the custom design did anything. A distinctive site is not evidence of a working one. If the pages are not tracked from first visit to the form or call they produce, nobody knows whether the extra design money was worth it.

Custom Web Design Services

Designed from the buyer and the brand

I am Justin Harris. I have designed and built websites for Las Vegas businesses for fourteen years and I do the work myself. Custom with me means the design starts from two things: who is deciding whether to hire you, and what your brand already says. It does not start from a theme.

I design the key pages in a browser, with your real copy and your real photography, so you review something you can click. I write the copy from your buyer's questions, because a custom design with stand-in copy hides problems until it is too late to fix them cheaply.

How I design in a browser

Then I build it so your team can edit it. A headline, a photo or a new service page should not need a ticket. You own the domain, the hosting and every login from day one.

Devin R., who runs GIOSTAR in Henderson, wrote in his Google review that I launched "a fully redesigned website with new brand guidelines." The brand guidelines came first and the design followed from them.

Work I built, live where you can check it

GIOSTAR and WebVegas are full websites I designed and built. Mili Pharma and Desert Inn Oasis cards show brand work, and both sites are in build. Quotible is a social content system. Each card says which.

GIOSTAR: the clinic website, booking and lead tracking

I built and run giostarwellness.com for a regenerative medicine and wellness clinic in Henderson: every service page, online booking, financing and a blog. A website lead is tracked end to end, from the form to a booked consult to an active patient, with no manual steps. I also built its live brand hub, so every page, post and print piece pulls the same colours, type and rules.

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we ended up working with Justin for some AI consulting on how to structure our operations. He laid out a clear plan, didn't overcomplicate it, and we've been running smoother since. Good fit for a service business. He knows Las Vegas and he knows this stuff.

Justin joined our team a few months before opening to replace a marketing agency that wasn’t performing. He stepped up fast. Within weeks he launched a fully redesigned website with new brand guidelines, built and delivered our marketing plan and AI strategy, and helped implement our system architecture so we could open on time. Since then, he’s made several critical enhancements to the site that helped us generate revenue in our first month. His engagement was supposed to end at opening, but he became such an integral part of our leadership team that we kept him on to help evolve our marketing and tech strategy as we grow. He’s easy to work with, pushes back when it matters, and moves easily between strategy, delivery, and operations depending on what’s needed. If you’re looking for a deeply experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated marketing, AI, or technology consultant, I highly recommend Justin Harris AI Consulting.

From what I've seen, Justin knows the AI automation space better than most people I've come across in Las Vegas. He's the kind of person who actually understands the technical side and can explain it without making you feel lost. Good guy, good reputation.

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we reached out to Justin for some AI consulting advice on where our service business could actually use automation. He was straightforward about what made sense and what didn't. Ended up being a useful conversation. Known Justin for a few years now. Guy knows the AI space better than most people I've come across, especially here in Las Vegas where there's no shortage of people claiming to be experts. He actually understands how AI automation works at a practical level, not just the theory. The kind of person who gives you a straight answer with kindness and patience

Knew Justin before he started building AI systems for businesses, and watching what he's put together is genuinely impressive. He built out an AI automation setup for my website in Las Vegas and it changed how we handle leads completely. The guy actually runs this stuff himself, so he knows what works.

What a custom design covers

Each part of a custom design project ends in something you can open and judge.

Brand and visual direction

Color, type and tone set from your logo and buyer. I write short guidelines if you have none.

Page design

Layouts for the pages that carry the weight: home, services, about, contact. Designed in a browser at phone and desktop sizes.

Copy

Written from your buyer's questions, so the design is built around real words and not filler.

Custom Web Design Deliverables

Components, tracking and accessibility

Components and editing

The pieces your team will reuse, such as service cards, testimonials and calls to action, built so new pages stay consistent.

Tracking and speed

Each page tracked to the form or call it produces, and speed measured on a phone before launch.

Accessibility

Contrast, headings, keyboard use and screen reader behavior checked against WCAG, with a written record.

Custom Web Design Template

Template or custom: how to decide

A template is the right answer more often than designers admit. Here is how I decide, and what I tell owners when the template is enough.
TemplateCustom design (picked when it fits)
Best whenThe business is new, the budget is small or the need is standardThe brand has to stand apart and the buyer is judging the firm by the site
Who else has itAnyone who buys the themeNobody
Editing laterEasy inside the theme's limitsEasy if built for your team; hard if built carelessly
Speed and weightOften loaded with options you do not useOnly what the site needs
What can go wrongLooks like everyone else; locked into the theme's quirksCosts more; dependence on the designer unless you own the files
OwnershipDepends who set it upDomain, hosting and files in your name

Custom Web Design Process

How a custom design runs

Every project follows the same five steps, and each ends with something you can open. The launch date is written into the scope before work starts.

  1. Step 01

    Look and listen

I grade your current site if there is one, look at how competitors present themselves and ask who decides to hire you and what they worry about.

  2. Step 02

    Agree the scope

Pages, features and the launch date on one page. Changes go on that page first.

  3. Step 03

    Direction and copy

I write the copy and set the visual direction. You approve the words and a first page before the rest is designed.

  4. Step 04

    Design and build

I design in a browser and build as I go. You review real pages and mark changes directly on them.

  5. Step 05

    Test, launch, report

Forms, calls and tracking are tested. After launch you receive a plain monthly report of what was used and what I changed.

Custom Web Design Free

What is free and what is not

Searches for custom web design free come from owners who want a unique site at no cost. That is not something I offer. A custom site takes real work, and a free one is paid for somewhere else, usually in hosting contracts or locked files.

What I do for free is the grade. I look at your current website and how it appears on a phone and on Google, and I send a written note of the three changes I would make first. Some owners take the list and make the changes themselves.

A business owner reviewing work on a phone

Custom Web Design Software

Design tools and who owns the output

Owners researching custom web design software are often choosing between a drag-and-drop builder, a design tool and hiring a designer. A builder is quick and keeps your site inside its walls. A design tool produces pictures of pages that someone still has to build. A designer works in whatever fits the job.

The question I would ask of any tool is the ownership question: when the work is finished, who can take it somewhere else? I design and build so the answer is you.

Web Design Companies in USA

Working with me from anywhere

I am based in Las Vegas and I meet Valley clients at their offices. People searching for a USA web design agency or a web designer agency often care more about accountability than address, so I work with clients across the country over calls and a shared project page, and I show you the same pages and the same reports.

See web development for how I build the more complex pieces.

Custom Website Design Cost

What moves the price

I quote a fixed price for a written scope after I have looked at what you need. Custom design is priced by how much distinct design there is, not how many pages exist.

WebVegas homepage, a website I built
  • How many unique page designs the site needs
  • Whether the brand and copy exist or must be written
  • Photography, video or illustration that must be produced
  • Integrations: booking, payments, a CRM
  • Moving an existing site without losing its search history
  • Accessibility work to a stated WCAG level
