Laravel Apps With Tests and an Owner

As a Laravel developer, I build new Laravel applications and take over ones with one developer and no tests. I audit first, in writing, and you keep the repository, the servers and every login.

Laravel Development Company

A Laravel app with one developer and no tests

The owner of a PHP application usually describes it the same way. Years ago a developer built it. It handles orders, bookings or client records and the business now depends on it. That developer is the only person who understands it, there are no automated tests, and every change is made carefully by hand on the live server because nobody trusts a test copy.

Laravel is a good framework, and a well-structured Laravel app is pleasant to maintain. The trouble is that it is also easy to write a tangled one, because the framework lets you put almost any logic almost anywhere. Spaghetti in Laravel looks like database queries inside page templates, business rules repeated in four controllers and secrets saved in the repository.

The fear I hear is of inheriting that mess from a stranger. So the first thing I produce is not code. It is a written audit, and you receive it before you pay for any rebuild.

What Is Laravel

What Laravel is, in plain terms

Laravel is a PHP framework: a ready-made structure for building web applications, covering sign-in, database access, forms, queues and email. It was created by Taylor Otwell in 2011. Is Laravel for PHP only? Yes, it is written in PHP and your code is PHP, though it can serve a front end written in React or Vue.

Is Laravel a frontend or backend framework? It is a backend framework. It decides what happens when a form is submitted or a page is requested, and it stores the data. Is Laravel good for beginners? It is among the friendlier PHP frameworks, and is it difficult to learn? The basics come quickly. Writing an application that stays clean as it grows takes years of habits, which is what you hire for.

I have no Laravel client to show you and I will not invent one. These are the real builds: two full websites I built and run, and three brand and content projects, each card saying which.

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we ended up working with Justin for some AI consulting on how to structure our operations. He laid out a clear plan, didn't overcomplicate it, and we've been running smoother since. Good fit for a service business. He knows Las Vegas and he knows this stuff.

Justin joined our team a few months before opening to replace a marketing agency that wasn’t performing. He stepped up fast. Within weeks he launched a fully redesigned website with new brand guidelines, built and delivered our marketing plan and AI strategy, and helped implement our system architecture so we could open on time. Since then, he’s made several critical enhancements to the site that helped us generate revenue in our first month. His engagement was supposed to end at opening, but he became such an integral part of our leadership team that we kept him on to help evolve our marketing and tech strategy as we grow. He’s easy to work with, pushes back when it matters, and moves easily between strategy, delivery, and operations depending on what’s needed. If you’re looking for a deeply experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated marketing, AI, or technology consultant, I highly recommend Justin Harris AI Consulting.

From what I've seen, Justin knows the AI automation space better than most people I've come across in Las Vegas. He's the kind of person who actually understands the technical side and can explain it without making you feel lost. Good guy, good reputation.

I've Known Justin for a while now and he really knows his stuff when it comes to AI consulting. If people in Las Vegas were to ask me for recommendations in this space, he's the best guy for the job, hands down.

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we reached out to Justin for some AI consulting advice on where our service business could actually use automation. He was straightforward about what made sense and what didn't. Ended up being a useful conversation. Las Vegas has no shortage of people claiming to be experts, and he's one of the few who could back it up.

Known Justin for a few years now. Guy knows the AI space better than most people I've come across, especially here in Las Vegas where there's no shortage of people claiming to be experts. He actually understands how AI automation works at a practical level, not just the theory. The kind of person who gives you a straight answer with kindness and patience

Knew Justin before he started building AI systems for businesses, and watching what he's put together is genuinely impressive. He built out an AI automation setup for my website in Las Vegas and it changed how we handle leads completely. The guy actually runs this stuff himself, so he knows what works.

Laravel Code Audit

The code audit I run before anything else

The audit takes read access to the repository and nothing from your team's time. It is the same list on every inherited Laravel app, so two apps can be compared fairly.

WebVegas homepage, a website I built
  • Framework and package versions, and which are no longer supported
  • Whether tests exist and pass on a clean machine
  • Where database queries live, and whether raw user input reaches them
  • Where secrets and passwords are stored, and who can reach the admin area
  • Queues, scheduled jobs and backups, including a tried restore
  • Who owns the repository, the server and the domain

Laravel in 2026 and Whether to Build on It

Is Laravel still relevant

Yes. It is actively maintained, releases on a yearly rhythm and has a large community and a broad set of first-party tools. Plenty of businesses run on it and the pool of developers who can read it is healthy.

A newer language is not a reason to rewrite a working Laravel app. I recommend a rebuild only when the structure is the reason every change is slow and risky, and the audit says so with evidence.

Laravel Developer Process

How a Laravel project runs

Every project follows the same steps, each ending with something you can open.

  1. Step 01

    Audit

I run the audit and send the findings in plain language before any quote.

  2. Step 02

    Agree the scope in writing

What to fix, what to build and in what order, on one page.

  3. Step 03

    Add tests first

Tests go around the rules that matter before I change them.

  4. Step 04

Build and release in small steps

Each change goes to a private copy and a release note says what changed.

  5. Step 05

    Hand over

Repository and servers are already yours. You get the guide and a recorded walkthrough.

  6. Step 06

    How remote work runs

A weekly call, a shared tracker and a short recording with each release.

Laravel Developer Cost

What moves the price

I quote a fixed price for a written scope after the audit, so the number you agree is the number you pay. A list would be wrong for a bug-fix retainer and a new portal alike.

GIOSTAR brand hub, a system I built
  • How far behind the framework version is
  • Whether tests exist and how much of the app they cover
  • The number of integrations and their quality
  • How many user roles and permissions the app has
  • Whether data must be moved from an old system
  • Hosting changes and a deploy pipeline

Laravel Developer Remote

Hiring a Laravel developer remotely

Searches for Laravel developer jobs, remote work, salary or a resume are mostly from people looking for a job. If you are the owner, the useful questions are different. Does the developer work alone, or hand off to someone you never meet? Will you own the repository and the server? Is there a written audit before a quote?

I work remotely, from Las Vegas, with clients across the country, and I do the work myself. That answers the first question. The scope answers the other two.
