Umbraco Developer Las Vegas

Documented, so the next developer can take over

As an Umbraco developer in Las Vegas, I read Umbraco sites for Valley companies myself, write down how they work and plan the upgrade. The hosting, repository and every login stay with the owner.

Umbraco Development

An Umbraco site only one developer understood

Umbraco is a content management system built on Microsoft's .NET. Companies that run it tend to be in the Microsoft world already: a hospitality group with a .NET team, a regional business with an in-house IT department, a firm whose previous agency worked in C#. It is a capable system and it is in use at organizations that care about control.

The risk is concentration. Umbraco sites are usually built by a small number of developers who write custom document types, templates and code. When one of them leaves, the site becomes a set of decisions that nobody wrote down. Marketing cannot add a page type without a developer.

Umbraco Upgrade Problems

What a stalled upgrade looks like

The developer who remains is afraid to upgrade because the last upgrade took the site down for a day. Versions matter here. Umbraco 7 and 8 ran on the older .NET Framework and are out of support. Versions from 9 onward run on modern .NET.

A site stuck on an old version cannot take security fixes, and moving it is a project and not a button.

Umbraco Developer

One person who documents what is there

I am Justin Harris. I have worked in Las Vegas digital marketing for fourteen years and I do the work myself. I will be direct about Umbraco: no site in my portfolio runs on it, and I will not claim a project I cannot show.

What I bring to an Umbraco site is a method you can check, which is reading the site, writing down how it works and handing you a document the next developer can use. Where the job is content structure, front-end templates, tracking, speed, planning an upgrade or a decision about whether to stay, I do that work.

Where a job needs a deep rewrite of C# back-end code, I tell you at the start whether it is within what I take on, so you do not find out halfway through. The domain, hosting and every login stay yours.

Two of the five builds are full websites I built and still run. None is an Umbraco site. The cards show how I scope, build and report.

GIOSTAR: the clinic website, booking and lead tracking

I built and run giostarwellness.com for a regenerative medicine and wellness clinic in Henderson: every service page, online booking, financing and a blog. A website lead is tracked end to end, from the form to a booked consult to an active patient, with no manual steps. I also built its live brand hub, so every page, post and print piece pulls the same colours, type and rules.

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we ended up working with Justin for some AI consulting on how to structure our operations. He laid out a clear plan, didn't overcomplicate it, and we've been running smoother since. Good fit for a service business. He knows Las Vegas and he knows this stuff.

Justin joined our team a few months before opening to replace a marketing agency that wasn’t performing. He stepped up fast. Within weeks he launched a fully redesigned website with new brand guidelines, built and delivered our marketing plan and AI strategy, and helped implement our system architecture so we could open on time. Since then, he’s made several critical enhancements to the site that helped us generate revenue in our first month. His engagement was supposed to end at opening, but he became such an integral part of our leadership team that we kept him on to help evolve our marketing and tech strategy as we grow. He’s easy to work with, pushes back when it matters, and moves easily between strategy, delivery, and operations depending on what’s needed. If you’re looking for a deeply experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated marketing, AI, or technology consultant, I highly recommend Justin Harris AI Consulting.

From what I've seen, Justin knows the AI automation space better than most people I've come across in Las Vegas. He's the kind of person who actually understands the technical side and can explain it without making you feel lost. Good guy, good reputation.

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we reached out to Justin for some AI consulting advice on where our service business could actually use automation. He was straightforward about what made sense and what didn't. Ended up being a useful conversation. Las Vegas has no shortage of people claiming to be experts, and he's one of the few who could back it up.

Knew Justin before he started building AI systems for businesses, and watching what he's put together is genuinely impressive. He built out an AI automation setup for my website in Las Vegas and it changed how we handle leads completely. The guy actually runs this stuff himself, so he knows what works.

Umbraco Development Services

What I do on Umbraco sites

Umbraco work falls into five jobs, and the first is the one that makes the rest less costly.

Handover documentation

A written map of the site: document types, templates, property editors, packages, users and the hosting behind it.

Content and editor cleanup

Simplifying the back office so editors see only what they need, with the tangled parts named and fixed.

Front-end and speed work

Template changes, image handling and performance, measured on phones before and after.

Upgrade planning

A written plan for moving off an unsupported version, with the risks, the order of work and a rehearsal on a copy.

Headless and integration options

Where the editors should keep Umbraco and the front end should change, see headless CMS development for how that split works.

Who Can Access My Umbraco Site?

Who holds the keys

Before any change, I list who can reach what. On an Umbraco site that list is longer than owners expect, and it is often where the real risk sits.

A storefront street in the Valley
  • The Umbraco back office users, and whether former staff still have accounts
  • The Umbraco Cloud project, if the site is hosted there, and whose billing it sits under
  • The hosting account, the source repository and the deployment pipeline
  • The domain registrar and the DNS records
  • Third-party services the site calls, such as email, maps or search
  • Whether a person other than the developer can restore from a backup

Umbraco Marketplace

Packages, and what each one costs to keep

The Umbraco Marketplace lists packages that add forms, SEO tools, backups and more. Each package is a dependency, and a dependency that stops being maintained becomes a blocker for the next upgrade. I list every package on your site, check whether it is maintained and note which version of Umbraco it supports.

The same goes for the newer Umbraco AI package: it is worth a look where it solves a real editorial task, and I will tell you when a plain workflow would do the job without adding a dependency.

I give you a recommendation in writing, and I do not suggest a move because Umbraco is unfamiliar to me.

How Long Does Umbraco Development Take?

How the work runs

Every Umbraco job runs the same five steps.

  1. Step 01

    Read the site

A written audit of versions, packages, users and hosting. You see it before you pay anything.

  2. Step 02

    Document

The map of document types, templates and processes, in a file your team keeps.

  3. Step 03

    Agree the scope

The work, the order and a date on one page.

  4. Step 04

    Work on a copy

Changes are made and tested on a copy, and you click through it.

  5. Step 05

    Switch and report

The live site is switched with a restore point, and I send a plain note on what changed.

How Much Does Umbraco Development Cost?

What moves the price

I quote a fixed price for a written scope after the audit. Umbraco itself is open source, and Umbraco Cloud is a paid hosting service billed by Umbraco, so ask any agency to separate those from their fee. These factors move mine.

An owner at work in a modern office
  • The version the site is on and how far it must move
  • How much custom code sits behind the site
  • How many packages need replacing or testing
  • The number of document types and templates to document
  • Hosting changes and deployment pipeline work
  • Staff training and the depth of the documentation
