Web Hosting Explained

What a web host actually holds

A web host is the company that stores a site's files and serves them to anyone who types the address. Hosting is the server space and the connection. The account, the domain and the billing sit with whoever set them up, and that person is often not the one you call when the site stops loading.

Hosting types differ in how much space and control you get. Shared hosting puts many sites on one server. A virtual private server gives you a fixed slice of a machine. Dedicated servers belong to one customer. Cloud hosting spreads a site across several machines. Managed WordPress hosting adds the server care a WordPress site needs.

Managed WordPress Hosting

What managed hosting adds

Managed WordPress hosting is a plan where the host looks after the server side of a WordPress site: the software it runs on, the caching and the security layer. You still own the content and the plugins, so someone still decides what to update and when. That decision is the part most owners never get.

What the lowest bill leaves out

A cheap shared plan looks like the lowest cost on paper. What it leaves out is the work: who restores the site after a bad update, who holds the account when the card on file expires, and who answers when the server slows down. Price those three things, then compare the bills.

How I choose a host with you

The right host depends on the site. A five-page brochure site and a patient booking site have different needs. I look at the platform, the traffic you expect, who edits the content and how often, and what the site connects to. Then I recommend one host, say why, and name the alternative I would not pick.

Hosting that goes with the build

When I build a site, the hosting choice is part of the build, not a separate purchase on a card nobody reviews. I set the host up on the account in your name, connect the domain and write down the DNS settings, so any future designer can find them without guessing.

Who Holds the Web Hosting Account

Whose name is on the account

The question I hear most is simple: who holds the account. A host bought years ago, by a former employee or an agency, can hold the domain, the billing and the admin login to the control panel. The owner pays every month and cannot change the card, the contact or the admin user.

The account should be in your name, with the admin logins in your hands. If it is not, the first step is a written list of what sits in it, then a transfer in order.

Web Hosting Backup and Restore

What a restore looks like

A backup is only useful if the restore has been written down. For each site I keep a short record: where the backups are kept, who can start a restore, the steps to put the site back and the date a restore was last checked by hand. You get a copy of that record and the logins it refers to.

Work I built and still run

Every build below is real and every link goes to the live work. WebVegas is a full site I designed and built for Las Vegas, with its booking form. GIOSTAR is a clinic website in Henderson that I built and run. The other three are brand and content work, and each card says which.

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we ended up working with Justin for some AI consulting on how to structure our operations. He laid out a clear plan, didn't overcomplicate it, and we've been running smoother since. Good fit for a service business. He knows Las Vegas and he knows this stuff.

Justin joined our team a few months before opening to replace a marketing agency that wasn’t performing. He stepped up fast. Within weeks he launched a fully redesigned website with new brand guidelines, built and delivered our marketing plan and AI strategy, and helped implement our system architecture so we could open on time. Since then, he’s made several critical enhancements to the site that helped us generate revenue in our first month. His engagement was supposed to end at opening, but he became such an integral part of our leadership team that we kept him on to help evolve our marketing and tech strategy as we grow. He’s easy to work with, pushes back when it matters, and moves easily between strategy, delivery, and operations depending on what’s needed. If you’re looking for a deeply experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated marketing, AI, or technology consultant, I highly recommend Justin Harris AI Consulting.

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we reached out to Justin for some AI consulting advice on where our service business could actually use automation. He was straightforward about what made sense and what didn't. Ended up being a useful conversation. Web Hosting Services Las Vegas

How a hosting move runs

  1. Step 01

    Find the current host

I list the host, the domain registrar, the billing contact and every admin user.

  2. Step 02

    Move the account

The account moves into your name before the site moves. Nothing changes until you hold the logins.

  3. Step 03

    Move the site

Files, email and forms move in a planned order, and the old host stays on until the new one is checked.

  4. Step 04

    Keep the record

The written record names every account, every login holder and every restore step.

Web Hosting Cost Las Vegas

What moves the cost

I quote a fixed price for a written scope, so the number you agree to is the number you pay. These are the things that move it.

A business owner reviewing work on a phone
  • The type of hosting the site needs
  • How many pages, forms and stores the site carries
  • Whether the site needs a move from another host first
  • How much restore and update support the scope includes
  • Whether a booking or patient form has to stay connected

How the plans compare

Most Las Vegas owners pick among three routes. Each can keep a site online. They differ in who holds the account and who answers when the site breaks.
