AI Search Visibility

Buyers now ask an assistant first

More buyers start with a question to an AI assistant before they open a search engine: which dentist in the Valley takes new patients, which accountant handles a small contractor, who does the work on a commercial kitchen. The answer is a short paragraph with a few names in it, and the buyer may never click through to a website.

Whether your business is named in that paragraph is not visible in any analytics tool you already use. It is visible only if someone asks the questions and writes down the answers.

What an AI Visibility Audit Tests

The prompts, the answers and the gaps

The audit builds a set of questions a real buyer in your trade would ask, runs each one across the assistants buyers use, and records the answer exactly as it appears. The table shows the parts of each test and what you receive.
PartWhat is doneWhat you receive
Buyer questionsWritten in the words a buyer would typeThe full prompt list, dated
Assistant answersEach prompt run and the answer savedEvery answer, quoted in the report
Business mentionsWhether the business, its services and its area appearA yes, partial or no for each prompt
Competitor mentionsWhich other businesses the answer namesThe names, with no judgment attached
Source checkWhich pages or listings the answer seems to draw fromA note where the source is not clear
Gap listWhat the site or profile is missing for each promptA ranked list of fixes you approve

Do Assistants Need Special Optimization

The fundamentals still apply

Google's documentation for its AI search features says there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, and no special optimizations are necessary. The pages still need to be clear, crawlable and accurate, and the business details still need to match across the places a buyer or an assistant reads.

That is why the audit leads to ordinary fixes: clearer service pages, accurate listings and answers to the questions buyers actually ask on the site.

How I Run the Prompt Test

A method you can repeat

A single answer is only a snapshot, because assistants change their answers over time and differ between accounts and locations. The test is useful when it is repeated on a schedule with the same prompts, so a change in the answers can be traced to a change on the site or the profile.

1. Write the prompt list

Twenty to thirty questions in buyer language, sorted by service, area and comparison.

2. Run and record

Each prompt is run and the full answer is saved with the date and the assistant used.

3. Score the mentions

Each answer is marked for business mention, competitor mention and whether the details are right.

4. Trace the sources

Where an answer points to a page or listing, I note it so the fix can go to the right place.

5. Repeat on a schedule

The same prompts run again later, so each change in the answers can be set against the work.

How the Audit Runs Step by Step

Five Steps From Prompt to Report

The audit runs the same five steps on every business, so two reports can be compared line by line. Each step ends with a file you can open, and nothing is changed on your site until you have read the findings in writing.

  1. Step 01

    Write the buyer prompts

I write the questions a real buyer would type into an assistant, in the words a customer uses, and approve the list with you before any test runs.

  2. Step 02

Run each prompt in every assistant

Each prompt is asked the same way in each assistant, on the same day, and the full answer is saved without editing.

  3. Step 03

    Record what each answer names

I log which businesses are named, which sources are cited, what details are right and what details are missing or wrong.

  4. Step 04

Score the gaps against the facts

Each gap is checked against your real hours, services, areas and listings, so the report flags the fact that is wrong, not the wording you would like.

  5. Step 05

Deliver the report and the fix list

You get the report, the ranked fix list and a note on what the audit cannot show, before any page or listing is touched.

Sample Audit Report

What the report looks like

The report opens with the prompts, then shows the answers, the mentions and the gaps, and ends with the fixes in order of how much each one would help a buyer. It says plainly when a prompt produced no mention and no fix will change that yet.

GIOSTAR brand hub, a system I built
  • The prompt list, with the date and the assistant used

  • A short note of what to recheck and when

Content That Answers Buyer Questions

Pages that say the answer

Most of the gaps I find are plain. The service page does not say which kind of client it is for, the price-free scope is not explained, or the area served is missing from the text. An assistant can only repeat what the site states clearly.

I rewrite the affected pages so each one answers the buyer question in its first paragraph, in plain words, with the service and area named in the text rather than only in a menu.

Business Details Across the Web

Facts that match everywhere

Assistants read the same sources buyers do: the business's own site, the profile, reviews and directories. When the name, address, services and hours disagree between them, the assistant has less to go on and may describe the business wrongly or not at all.

The audit checks those details against the site and fixes the mismatches in the places they start.

Structured Data for Real Facts

Markup that matches the page

Structured data is a set of labels that tell search engines what a page describes, such as the business, the service or the questions it answers. It helps when the labels match what the page shows and do no more than that.

I add structured data only for facts that are on the page and true, and I check it against Google's rules before it goes live. Markup that claims things the page does not show is removed.

GIOSTAR: the clinic website, booking and lead tracking

I built and run giostarwellness.com for a regenerative medicine and wellness clinic in Henderson: every service page, online booking, financing and a blog. A website lead is tracked end to end, from the form to a booked consult to an active patient, with no manual steps. I also built its live brand hub, so every page, post and print piece pulls the same colours, type and rules.

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we ended up working with Justin for some AI consulting on how to structure our operations. He laid out a clear plan, didn't overcomplicate it, and we've been running smoother since. Good fit for a service business. He knows Las Vegas and he knows this stuff.

Justin joined our team a few months before opening to replace a marketing agency that wasn’t performing. He stepped up fast. Within weeks he launched a fully redesigned website with new brand guidelines, built and delivered our marketing plan and AI strategy, and helped implement our system architecture so we could open on time. Since then, he’s made several critical enhancements to the site that helped us generate revenue in our first month. His engagement was supposed to end at opening, but he became such an integral part of our leadership team that we kept him on to help evolve our marketing and tech strategy as we grow. He’s easy to work with, pushes back when it matters, and moves easily between strategy, delivery, and operations depending on what’s needed. If you’re looking for a deeply experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated marketing, AI, or technology consultant, I highly recommend Justin Harris AI Consulting.

What the Audit Cannot Show

The limits of a sample

An audit is a sample of the answers on the day it was run. It cannot promise that a business will be named in future answers, and no one can promise that. Answers depend on the question's wording, the assistant, the account and the location of the person asking.

What the audit can do is show, in writing, what was asked, what came back and what is missing, so the next decision is based on evidence rather than a feeling.

The scope I offer

The audit can stand alone as a one-time report, or it can be followed by the fixes and a repeated test each month. Either way the scope is written before the prompts are run, and the list of prompts is shared so you can add the questions you hear from customers.

  1. Step 01

    Audit only

A one-time prompt test with the report, the gap list and the fixes ranked.

  2. Step 02

    Audit and fixes

The audit plus the page and listing changes you approve, logged as they go live.

  3. Step 03

    Monthly recheck

The same prompts run again each month, with a short note on what changed.

AI Visibility Audit Cost

What moves the scope

I quote a fixed price for a written scope after I have seen the business, its services and its area. A single-service practice with a clear site needs fewer prompts than a multi-location company with several service lines.

An owner at work in a modern office
  • How many services and areas the prompt list covers
  • How many prompts are tested, and how often they are repeated
  • Whether the site and profile need fixes after the audit
  • How many competitors are compared in the answers
  • Whether a monthly recheck is wanted

Affordable AI Visibility Audit

What a fair scope includes

A lower quote is only useful when the scope matches. Ask every provider, me included, how many prompts they test, which assistants they use, how the answers are recorded and whether the gap list comes with fixes.

A report with a score and no saved answers cannot be checked, so ask to see the saved answers before you buy.
