Joomla Developer Las Vegas

Keep the Joomla site or leave it

As a Joomla developer in Las Vegas, I audit Joomla sites for Valley companies myself, then maintain, upgrade or move them. The hosting, domain and every login stay in the owner's name.

Joomla Development

A Joomla site nobody updates

Joomla was a sensible choice when many Valley companies built their sites, and a lot of those sites are still running. They have a dozen extensions, a template from a developer who has moved on, and an administrator login that one employee remembers. They work, in the sense that the pages load.

Nobody has applied an update in a long time because nobody is sure what an update would break. That is the exposure. Joomla 3 reached end of life in August 2023 and no longer receives security fixes, so a site still on it is running on code the project has stopped patching.

Is Joomla 3 Still Safe?

What end of life means for the site

Extensions fall out of support separately, and each one is another door that may be unlocked. The owner usually learns about it when the site is flagged, hacked or simply too slow to use on a phone. Most owners in this position are not asking for a new design.

They want to know whether the site is safe, whether it can be saved, and what it costs to leave. A straight answer to those three questions is the first thing I provide.

GIOSTAR brand hub, a system I built

Joomla Developer

One person who reads the Joomla site first

I am Justin Harris. I have worked in Las Vegas digital marketing for fourteen years and I do the work myself. On a Joomla site I start by reading what is installed, which extensions are live, which are abandoned, and which version the core is on, and I write you a plain note before I change anything.

My portfolio does not include a Joomla build and I will not pretend it does. What I offer is process I can show: a written audit, a decision you can check, and a site that stays in your hands. The domain, hosting and every login remain yours, and I hand over a document naming what I found and what I did.

Two of the five builds are full websites I built and still run. None is a Joomla site. The cards show how I scope, build and report.

GIOSTAR: the clinic website, booking and lead tracking

I built and run giostarwellness.com for a regenerative medicine and wellness clinic in Henderson: every service page, online booking, financing and a blog. A website lead is tracked end to end, from the form to a booked consult to an active patient, with no manual steps. I also built its live brand hub, so every page, post and print piece pulls the same colours, type and rules.

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we ended up working with Justin for some AI consulting on how to structure our operations. He laid out a clear plan, didn't overcomplicate it, and we've been running smoother since. Good fit for a service business. He knows Las Vegas and he knows this stuff.

Justin joined our team a few months before opening to replace a marketing agency that wasn’t performing. He stepped up fast. Within weeks he launched a fully redesigned website with new brand guidelines, built and delivered our marketing plan and AI strategy, and helped implement our system architecture so we could open on time. Since then, he’s made several critical enhancements to the site that helped us generate revenue in our first month. His engagement was supposed to end at opening, but he became such an integral part of our leadership team that we kept him on to help evolve our marketing and tech strategy as we grow. He’s easy to work with, pushes back when it matters, and moves easily between strategy, delivery, and operations depending on what’s needed. If you’re looking for a deeply experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated marketing, AI, or technology consultant, I highly recommend Justin Harris AI Consulting.

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we reached out to Justin for some AI consulting advice on where our service business could actually use automation. He was straightforward about what made sense and what didn't. Ended up being a useful conversation. Las Vegas has no shortage of people claiming to be experts, and he's one of the few who could back it up.

Knew Justin before he started building AI systems for businesses, and watching what he's put together is genuinely impressive. He built out an AI automation setup for my website in Las Vegas and it changed how we handle leads completely. The guy actually runs this stuff himself, so he knows what works.

Joomla Developer Las Vegas Services

What I do on Joomla sites

Joomla work falls into five jobs, and the first one decides which of the others you need.

Audit and security check

Core version, extensions, users, file permissions and backups, reported in plain language with the risks ranked.

Upgrade to a supported release

Moving a Joomla 3 site to a current release on a copy first, so the live site is untouched until everything is checked.

Extension and template repair

Replacing abandoned extensions, fixing a broken template and trimming what the site does not use.

Speed and mobile fixes

Images, caching and layout on phones, measured before and after.

Moving to another platform

When Joomla is not worth saving, I move the content and addresses to a platform your team can run. See WordPress development for the usual destination.

Joomla Global Configuration

What I check first

The first hour on a Joomla site goes into a fixed list. It tells me whether the site is a candidate for repair or for replacement.

GIOSTAR homepage, a website I built
  • Global Configuration: debug mode off, error reporting set safely, a sensible session lifetime
  • The Joomla version and whether it still gets security updates
  • Every extension, its version and whether the developer still supports it
  • Super User accounts, and whether former staff still hold one
  • Whether backups exist and whether anyone has tested a restore
  • The PHP version on the server and the hosting plan behind it

Joomla Web Hosting

Where the site is hosted matters

Hosting is part of the decision. A Joomla site on an old server with an old PHP version can fail after a routine host update, whatever the site's own code does. I check where the site lives, whose account it is in and who pays the bill.

If the hosting is in an agency's name, I help you move it to an account in your name. If it is already yours, I check that it runs a PHP version the current Joomla supports and that automatic backups are on.

Joomla vs WordPress

Maintain, upgrade or leave

This is the decision most Joomla owners face. I give a recommendation in writing after the audit, and I do not push a rebuild if the site is sound.
Maintain as isUpgrade JoomlaMove to another platform
Fits whenAlready on a supported release, few extensionsOn Joomla 3 but the site is simple and the extensions have updatesAbandoned extensions, a dated design, a team that cannot edit it
Main benefitLowest cost, least changeKeeps the structure and addressesA platform with a larger pool of developers
Main riskDrift into the same problem laterExtensions that will not upgradeContent and search history lost if redirects are careless
What I doMonitor, update, back upUpgrade on a copy, test, switchMap every page, move, redirect, test
What you hold afterA documented siteA supported siteA site on a platform your team knows

How Long Does Joomla Development Take?

How the work runs

Every Joomla project runs the same four steps, and each ends with something you can open.

  1. Step 01

    Audit

A written read of the site with the risks ranked. You get it before you pay anything.

  2. Step 02

    Decide

Maintain, upgrade or move, with the reasoning and a date on one page.

  3. Step 03

    Work on a copy

All changes happen on a copy of the site, and you can open it and click through.

  4. Step 04

    Switch and report

The live site is switched once the copy passes my checks, with redirects, a restore point and a written record of what changed.

How Much Does Joomla Development Cost?

What moves the price

I quote a fixed price for a written scope after the audit. An update of a simple site and a move of a large one are very different jobs. These are the factors.

WebVegas homepage, a website I built
  • The version Joomla is on and how far it must move
  • How many extensions need replacing, and whether replacements exist
  • The number of pages and any custom components to carry over
  • Hosting moves and server upgrades
  • Redirects needed to protect search history
  • Training for staff and written documentation
