SaaS Advertising

Ad Spend Traced to Trials

I run SaaS advertising for software companies, paid search and paid social, and connect each click to the trial, demo or paid account it produces. You keep the ad accounts, the pixels and the data.

SaaS Advertising Strategy

What I measure before I buy a click

Most software ad accounts are measured by clicks and cost per click, and those numbers say nothing about whether a visitor started a trial. Before I set a budget, I agree on the event that counts: a trial start, a demo booked or a paid plan. Every campaign is judged against that event, and the cheaper click is not automatically the better one.

The strategy follows the sales cycle. A product bought by a team after a long evaluation needs search and comparison campaigns that reach people already looking, plus retargeting that brings them back to the pricing page. A self-serve product with a short trial needs faster tests on the signup page itself.

SaaS Advertising Examples

Campaign types I set up for software

Category search campaigns

Search ads on the words a buyer types when they need the kind of product you sell, each sent to a page built for it.

Comparison search campaigns

Ads for the names of competing products, sent to a fair comparison page, with claims that the platform rules allow.

Retargeting to trial users

Ads shown to people who started a trial and did not finish setup, with a message that matches the step they stopped on.

LinkedIn role targeting

Sponsored posts aimed at the job titles that sign off on software, tested against cost per demo booked.

Product screen video

Short clips of the real product screen, shown to the audience the campaign was built for and measured on trial starts.

SaaS Advertising Services

What I run for software companies

  1. Step 01

    Paid search

Account setup, keyword structure, ad copy and negative keywords, managed against trial and paid events.

  2. Step 02

    Paid social

Meta and LinkedIn campaigns with audiences and creative tested in the open, and the results written down.

  3. Step 03

    Retargeting

Audiences built from trial users and pricing page visitors, with frequency caps so a buyer is not chased all day.

  4. Step 04

    Landing pages for campaigns

A page for each campaign, built to match the ad, so the message the click expects is the one it receives.

  5. Step 05

    Conversion tracking

Events, UTM tags and CRM fields that carry each click through to the trial and the paid account.

  6. Step 06

    Monthly readout

A plain report of spend, trials and paid accounts by campaign, with the changes I made and the next test.

Best SaaS Advertising

Where software buyers search and scroll

Software buyers use search when they know the problem and social feeds when they are browsing for ideas. The channel that fits depends on how the product is bought, who signs off and how long the decision takes. The table sets out where each channel earns its place and where it wastes money.
ChannelBest forWatch for
SearchBuyers who already name the problemExpensive terms, so match them tightly
LinkedInTeam buyers and sign-off rolesHigh cost per click, so judge on demos booked
MetaFounders and small teams browsingCheap clicks that rarely start trials without a strong offer
RetargetingVisitors who came close and leftAudience size, and frequency that annoys
YouTubeProducts that need a demo to understandViews do not equal trials, so tag the video traffic

SaaS Advertising Company

One marketer who reads the trial data

A growth agency can run ads well, and I have seen it done. The gap I try to close is between the ad account and the product. When the agency reports clicks, nobody in the room knows whether the trial form is working, whether the pricing page loads on a phone or whether the sales team is following up.

I set up the campaigns and read the trial and paid data myself. If a campaign brings trials that never become accounts, I say so in the readout and change the audience or the page, not the report.

SaaS Advertising Cost

What sets the budget

I quote a fixed fee for a written scope, and the media budget is a separate line you control in your own accounts. A campaign for one product with one buyer is a different job from a set of campaigns across three products, so no price list fits both.

A storefront street in the Valley
  • How many products, buyer types and markets the campaigns must cover
  • How competitive the search terms are, which sets the cost per click
  • How long the sales cycle runs from trial to paid account
  • How much tracking has to be built before the first campaign goes live
  • How much creative must be made: landing pages, ad copy and video
  • How often the readout is reviewed with the founder or sales lead

Trial-to-Paid Attribution

Following a click to a paying account

Click cost is the easiest number to see and the least useful one. A campaign with cheap clicks can fill a trial list with people who never finish setup, and a campaign with expensive clicks can bring the buyers who pay. Attribution is the work of connecting the two.

I follow each click through the steps that matter: the landing page, the trial start, the activation step the product counts as real use, and the first paid invoice. The campaign that brought the paid account gets credit, and the one that brought only sign-ups gets a smaller share until the data says otherwise.

The attribution is only as good as the data passed through. Where the billing system cannot send the source back, the readout labels that link as missing, so the number is never filled with a guess.

WebVegas homepage, a website I built

SaaS Conversion Tracking

Connecting ad clicks to trial starts

Tracking is built before the first campaign goes live, and I test it with real clicks. Each ad platform gets its own conversion events, the site sends the same events to the analytics tool, and the CRM receives the campaign source with the trial record.

An owner at work in a modern office
  • Platform conversion events for trial start, demo booked and paid plan
  • UTM tags on every ad, with a naming rule written down once
  • Source and campaign fields passed from the signup form to the CRM
  • A test click run through the whole path before launch
  • A check each week that the event counts match the CRM counts

Ad Platform Rules for SaaS Products

Claims and data rules that limit an ad

Ad platforms review software ads against their policies, and those policies cover the claims an ad may make, how a free trial may be described, and what data a page may collect. A rejected ad costs days, so I check each claim against the platform rules before it goes live.

The privacy side matters too. A signup form that collects more than the product needs creates a review problem with the platforms and a trust problem with the buyer. The privacy statement and the consent settings are your counsel's call, and I make sure the tracking matches what the statement says.

Work I built, and how close each build is

Every build below is real, and every link goes to the live work. Quotible is the closest: social content for a testimonial software company, built as a content system. It is not ad management, and I do not claim ad results for it. WebVegas is my own web design brand with a booking funnel. The clinic website and the two brand projects are not software work, and each card says which.

SaaS Advertising Reviews

What clients wrote on Google

Every written review on my Google Business Profile, word for word, including the one that gave four stars. Nothing is picked or paraphrased. Most of them are about AI consulting and automation rather than advertising, so I do not offer them as SaaS ad proof. Also rated five stars by Cyndee M., Angela M., Dan H.. Read them on Google

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we ended up working with Justin for some AI consulting on how to structure our operations. He laid out a clear plan, didn't overcomplicate it, and we've been running smoother since. Good fit for a service business. He knows Las Vegas and he knows this stuff.

Justin joined our team a few months before opening to replace a marketing agency that wasn’t performing. He stepped up fast. Within weeks he launched a fully redesigned website with new brand guidelines, built and delivered our marketing plan and AI strategy, and helped implement our system architecture so we could open on time. Since then, he’s made several critical enhancements to the site that helped us generate revenue in our first month. His engagement was supposed to end at opening, but he became such an integral part of our leadership team that we kept him on to help evolve our marketing and tech strategy as we grow. He’s easy to work with, pushes back when it matters, and moves easily between strategy, delivery, and operations depending on what’s needed. If you’re looking for a deeply experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated marketing, AI, or technology consultant, I highly recommend Justin Harris AI Consulting.

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we reached out to Justin for some AI consulting advice on where our service business could actually use automation. He was straightforward about what made sense and what didn't. Ended up being a useful conversation. Knew Justin before he started building AI systems for businesses, and watching what he's put together is genuinely impressive. He built out an AI automation setup for my website in Las Vegas and it changed how we handle leads completely. The guy actually runs this stuff himself, so he knows what works.

SaaS Advertising Reporting

The readout I send each month

The readout is one page you can check against your own accounts. It names the spend, the trials and the paid accounts for each campaign, the cost per paid account, the changes I made and the test I run next. It is built to be read in five minutes by a founder who is also doing the sales.

A business owner reviewing work on a phone
  • Spend by campaign, from your ad accounts
  • Trial starts and demos booked by campaign
  • Paid accounts by campaign, from billing
  • Cost per paid account, with the gap noted where data is missing
  • Changes made this month and the reason for each
  • The next test and what result would change the plan

How SaaS Campaigns Launch

How a campaign runs, step by step

  1. Step 01

    Check the funnel

I review the landing page, the trial path and the tracking before any budget is spent, and send a written read.

  2. Step 02

    Build the campaigns

Structure, audiences, copy and the pages each ad sends people to, all reviewed in your accounts.

  3. Step 03

    Test with a small budget

Early spend goes to the highest-intent terms and the strongest audience, so the first data is clear.

  4. Step 04

    Read trials and paid accounts

Each week I compare platform numbers with the CRM and billing, and I flag any gap.

  5. Step 05

    Change and report

Campaigns that bring paid accounts get more budget, the rest are changed or paused, and the readout says which.
