WordPress SEO

What a WordPress site needs

WordPress powers a large share of small business sites, and most of them have an SEO plugin installed. The plugin is a set of switches. It can write a title and a description, build a sitemap and manage how archive pages are indexed, but it does nothing until someone chooses the settings.

The usual problem is not a missing plugin. It is a plugin installed during the build, left on its defaults and never reviewed by anyone who knows what each switch controls.

Plugin Settings Nobody Checks

The switches that move pages

Most SEO plugins have settings for how each content type is indexed, which archive pages appear in search, how breadcrumbs are shown and whether the sitemap includes pages you do not want found. The defaults differ between plugins and between versions, so the same site can be set up in ways that help or hurt it.
SettingWhat it controlsWhat I check
Indexing by content typeWhether pages, posts and products can appear in searchEach type is set on purpose and noted
Archive pagesTag, author and date archives that repeat contentIndexed only when they add a page a buyer needs
XML sitemapThe list of pages you ask Google to readOnly live, useful pages are included
Titles and descriptionsThe text buyers see in search resultsEach service page has its own, written to match the page
Breadcrumbs and schemaStructure Google reads from the pageMatches what the page shows, with no invented details
Canonical URLsWhich address counts when two addresses show the same pageSet to the main address for each page

Why a Plugin Does Not Make an SEO Plan

A plugin is a tool, not a plan

A plugin can tell you a title is too long. It cannot decide which service page should be the one a Valley buyer finds, or whether the homepage is doing the job of three service pages. That decision is the plan, and it is the part most sites never get.

I use the plugin as the place where the plan is written into the site, and I keep a record of why each setting is what it is.

WordPress Page Titles and Descriptions

Pages that say what they are

A title and a description are the first lines a searcher reads, and on WordPress they are often generated from the page name by default. A page called Services gets a title that says almost nothing about the service, the area or the buyer.

I rewrite the titles and descriptions for the pages that matter first, keep them within the length search results show, and match each one to the words on the page so the promise and the content agree.

Page Builders and Theme Weight

Speed on a phone

Many WordPress sites are built with a page builder and a theme that loads more code than any one page needs. The extra weight shows up on a phone first, where a buyer waits for the phone number and the booking button to appear.

I measure the pages on a mobile connection, find the scripts and images that slow them, and fix those before anything else. A faster page that says nothing useful still does not earn the call, so the copy and the speed are reviewed together.

Duplicate Pages on WordPress

One page, one address

WordPress can reach the same content through more than one address: a category page, a tag page, a date archive, a page with a parameter on the end. Google has to decide which version to show, and when no clear choice is set, Google picks one for itself.

Google's canonical guidance says that when no canonical is specified, Google selects the version it considers best to show. I set the canonical on purpose, so the address you want found is the one that counts.

Sitemaps and Search Console

What Google is asked to read

The sitemap is the list you hand to Google, and Search Console is where you see how Google reads the site. Both are often set up once and never looked at again, so the sitemap still lists pages that were deleted and the reports show errors nobody opened.

I connect the site to Search Console, submit a clean sitemap, and check the coverage report for errors. Each fix is logged with the date.

WordPress SEO Process

Five steps, each with a file you can open

Each WordPress engagement follows the same order, and each step ends with a record. No setting changes until the settings table is approved.

1. Export the current settings

I record every SEO plugin setting, the active theme and the plugin versions before anything changes.

2. Audit the switches

Each setting is checked against the pages it controls, and the table shows what I found and what I would change.

3. Rewrite the key pages

Titles, descriptions, headings and internal links are updated for the pages a buyer needs first.

4. Test and check

Pages are loaded on a phone, the forms are sent and the sitemap is checked against the live pages.

5. Report monthly

A plain note shows what changed, what Search Console reports and what I plan to fix next.

Work I built, live where you can check it

Every build below is real and every link goes to the live work. Two of the five are full websites I built and still run. The other three are brand and content work, two of them for sites that are in build now, and each card says which.

GIOSTAR: the clinic website, booking and lead tracking

I built and run giostarwellness.com for a regenerative medicine and wellness clinic in Henderson: every service page, online booking, financing and a blog. A website lead is tracked end to end, from the form to a booked consult to an active patient, with no manual steps. I also built its live brand hub, so every page, post and print piece pulls the same colours, type and rules.

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we ended up working with Justin for some AI consulting on how to structure our operations. He laid out a clear plan, didn't overcomplicate it, and we've been running smoother since. Good fit for a service business. He knows Las Vegas and he knows this stuff.

Justin joined our team a few months before opening to replace a marketing agency that wasn’t performing. He stepped up fast. Within weeks he launched a fully redesigned website with new brand guidelines, built and delivered our marketing plan and AI strategy, and helped implement our system architecture so we could open on time. Since then, he’s made several critical enhancements to the site that helped us generate revenue in our first month. His engagement was supposed to end at opening, but he became such an integral part of our leadership team that we kept him on to help evolve our marketing and tech strategy as we grow. He’s easy to work with, pushes back when it matters, and moves easily between strategy, delivery, and operations depending on what’s needed. If you’re looking for a deeply experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated marketing, AI, or technology consultant, I highly recommend Justin Harris AI Consulting.

Knew Justin before he started building AI systems for businesses, and watching what he's put together is genuinely impressive. He built out an AI automation setup for my website in Las Vegas and it changed how we handle leads completely. The guy actually runs this stuff himself, so he knows what works.

WordPress Services for Service Businesses

Who the work is for

Most of the WordPress sites I work on belong to professional practices and service companies: a law office, a dental practice, a contractor with a crew or two, a med spa. Each of them has a few pages that bring in calls, and the rest of the site is there to support those pages.

The SEO work starts with those pages and works outward, which keeps the time and the cost on what a buyer actually reads.

WordPress Migration and Plugin Cleanup

Cleaning up before the change

Some sites have three SEO plugins, a caching plugin that conflicts with a security plugin, and a redirect plugin nobody remembers installing. Each extra plugin is one more place where a setting can change without anyone noticing.

Before any change I list the plugins, decide which one stays, and note what the others did. Plugins that do not earn their place are removed, and the redirects they held are moved into one tested list.

Best WordPress SEO Services

What good looks like on WordPress

A good WordPress SEO service is one that can name every setting it changed and why. It keeps the site fast, keeps the plugin count low and writes the pages in plain language a buyer can follow.

The best test is the report. If it shows the pages and the settings, with the date of each change, you can judge the work yourself.

WordPress SEO Services Cost

What moves the scope

I quote a fixed price for a written scope after I have opened the settings. A five-page brochure site and a site with two hundred product and service pages need different work, so a price list would be wrong for at least one of them.

WordPress SEO Near Me

In person or over a call

I work from Las Vegas and meet clients at their office across the Valley when that helps. The settings audit is done inside your WordPress login, so a shared screen and a call cover most of the first meeting.

What I Will Not Promise

No ranking guaranteed

I cannot promise a first-page position for any keyword. Google's SEO starter guide says there are no secrets that will automatically rank a site first, and results change as the web changes.

What I commit to is the settings table, the logged changes, the rewritten pages and the monthly report.

What a fair scope includes

A lower quote is only useful when the scope matches. Ask every provider, me included, which settings they will review, which pages they will rewrite and how the work will be logged.

A plugin install with a monthly fee and no settings table is not an SEO scope. It is a subscription.
