What is auto repair advertising?

Paid reach for shops that fix cars

Auto repair advertising puts a shop in front of drivers who need work now or will soon. A search ad appears when someone types a service and a town. A map ad appears on the phone of a driver who is already nearby. A social ad reaches people in the shop's area who have shown interest in cars or local services.

The spend is only useful if it is traced. A driver who clicks an ad and then calls a shop produces a call. The question for the owner is whether that call became a repair order, and which campaign sent it. Advertising without that line is a bill for impressions.

Campaigns I set up and run

I set up, launch and manage paid campaigns for shops and service departments. The work covers the account, the audiences, the ad copy, the landing pages the ads send traffic to, and the tracking that links each call to its campaign.

Every account is opened in the owner's name, and the budget is paid directly to the platform. I manage the campaigns inside that account and report on them in the owner's own numbers. The owner can stop the spend at any time without asking me.

Google Local Services ads for auto repair

Paid calls from nearby drivers

Google Local Services ads list a business at the top of local results with a call button, and the business pays for each lead it receives in the program rather than for each click. The format suits a shop that lives on phone calls, but its leads still need checking, because a call that never books is a cost with no return.

I set up the profile, the service categories and the call tracking together, and I review each lead against the repair orders it produced. Leads that do not turn into work are reviewed so the shop can see where the program is spending on the wrong calls.

Why auto repair ad spend cannot be traced

Spend with no repair order behind it

Most shops that advertise hand the account to an agency that reports clicks, impressions and cost per click. None of those figures says which campaign produced a repair order. The owner pays the bill each month without a way to check whether the money came back as work in the bays.

The fix is structural. Each campaign gets its own tracked number or booking source, the calls and forms are logged by campaign, and the shop matches those logs to repair orders in its own system. A campaign that cannot be matched is named in the readout, not hidden.

Service specials kept apart from other ads

Specials tracked on their own

A dealership service lane and a sales lot run different ads for different buyers. A service special for an oil change or a brake inspection targets drivers who already own the car. A sales ad targets buyers looking for a vehicle. Mixing the two in one campaign hides which one is working.

I keep service specials and sales ads in separate campaigns with separate numbers, so the service lane can see the bookings its own offers produced. The same rule applies to an independent shop that runs a seasonal special next to its everyday repair ads.

Builds I made, live where you can check them

Every build below is real and every link goes to the live work. No auto repair advertising campaign is in this set, and I do not claim one. The clinic website is the closest documented lead tracking I have, and it is a medical practice.

GIOSTAR: the clinic website, booking and lead tracking

I built and run giostarwellness.com for a regenerative medicine and wellness clinic in Henderson: every service page, online booking, financing and a blog. A website lead is tracked end to end, from the form to a booked consult to an active patient, with no manual steps. I also built its live brand hub, so every page, post and print piece pulls the same colours, type and rules.

Google ads for auto repair shops

Search ads for a specific repair

Search ads for auto repair work best when each ad group matches one repair and one area: brake service in one part of the Valley, diagnostics in another. Broad groups spend on searches the shop does not want, such as parts or do-it-yourself guides, and the spend disappears without a booking.

I review the search terms each month and add the ones that do not fit as negatives. The readout names the terms that cost money and produced nothing, so the owner sees what was removed and why.

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we ended up working with Justin for some AI consulting on how to structure our operations. He laid out a clear plan, didn't overcomplicate it, and we've been running smoother since. Good fit for a service business. He knows Las Vegas and he knows this stuff.

Justin joined our team a few months before opening to replace a marketing agency that wasn’t performing. He stepped up fast. Within weeks he launched a fully redesigned website with new brand guidelines, built and delivered our marketing plan and AI strategy, and helped implement our system architecture so we could open on time. Since then, he’s made several critical enhancements to the site that helped us generate revenue in our first month. His engagement was supposed to end at opening, but he became such an integral part of our leadership team that we kept him on to help evolve our marketing and tech strategy as we grow. He’s easy to work with, pushes back when it matters, and moves easily between strategy, delivery, and operations depending on what’s needed. If you’re looking for a deeply experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated marketing, AI, or technology consultant, I highly recommend Justin Harris AI Consulting.

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we reached out to Justin for some AI consulting advice on where our service business could actually use automation. He was straightforward about what made sense and what didn't. Ended up being a useful conversation. Knew Justin before he started building AI systems for businesses, and watching what he's put together is genuinely impressive. He built out an AI automation setup for my website in Las Vegas and it changed how we handle leads completely. The guy actually runs this stuff himself, so he knows what works.

Auto repair advertising campaign types

Four campaigns, four tracked lines

Each campaign type has a job, a tracked line and a readout line. The table shows how I set them up for a shop or a service department.
CampaignWhat it is forWhat I track
Search adsA driver who types a repair and a townCalls and forms by ad group, matched to repair orders
Local services adsA nearby driver who wants a call nowEach lead, reviewed against the work it became

What the auto repair advertising work includes

Five steps, each with a record

The work runs on a fixed rhythm. Each step leaves a record the owner can open.

Set up the account

The ad account, billing and call tracking are opened in the owner's name.

Build the campaigns

Ad groups, copy and landing pages are built around one repair and one area each.

Launch with limits

Budgets are set low at launch and raised only where the first leads match repair orders.

Clean the search terms

Each month, terms that spend without a booking are added as negatives and logged.

Read the monthly log

Calls, bookings and repair orders by campaign, with the changes made after each.

Auto repair advertising and reputation

Reviews that support paid traffic

A paid click that lands on a shop with weak reviews is wasted. Reviews on the listing are part of what a driver reads before calling, so the advertising plan includes the listing and the review replies that support it. I draft those replies for the owner to approve, and I do not write reviews or offer incentives for them.

How much does auto repair advertising cost

What moves the scope

I quote a fixed price for the setup and the management after I have seen the shop's current accounts and records. Ad spend is paid to the platforms and is set by the owner, and I do not print a number before the look, because a single service area and a multi-location group need very different work.
