Restaurant Advertising

Ad spend traced to reservations

I run restaurant advertising for owners who want each campaign tied to a reservation, an online order or a slow shift they can fill, with the numbers in their own accounts.

Restaurant Advertising Strategy

Why most restaurant ads go untraced

Most owners can tell you what they spent on ads last month. Far fewer can tell you which ad filled a Tuesday table, which one brought the catering inquiry, or whether the online order came from the boosted post or from a regular who already knew the menu.

The reason is simple. A restaurant ad reports reach and clicks, and a restaurant earns on covers, orders and repeat visits. Those two numbers never meet unless someone builds the bridge on purpose.

Restaurant Ads That Pay Back

Where the agency model breaks

A common setup has an agency holding the ad account, the pixel and the billing. The monthly report shows impressions and a link to a dashboard you cannot export. When the spend goes up, the report does not say why, and leaving means losing the audiences you paid to build.

I set every account up in the owner's name from day one. The ad accounts, audiences, conversion events and call numbers stay with the business, so the record of what you spent and what it produced is yours.

Who I run ads for

Most of the restaurants I would take on are independent owners and small groups with a dining room, a takeout menu and a clear busy and slow shift. The work changes with the concept, but the question is the same: which campaign fills the table that is empty right now.

I start by asking which shift, which menu and which guest you want more of, because a brunch push and a late-night push need different ads, different landing pages and a different count of success.

Daypart Campaigns

Ads built for the slow shifts

Restaurant demand comes in blocks. A weekday lunch, a Sunday brunch and a Friday late seating each pull from a different crowd, so a single always-on campaign averages them out and hides the one that is failing.

I build daypart campaigns: one for each slow block, with its own offer, its own landing page and its own budget line. Each one reports the covers or orders it produced in that window, so you can cut the block that is not working without touching the rest.

WebVegas homepage, a website I built
  • One campaign per slow block, not one for the whole week
  • Each block has its own offer and landing page
  • Reservations and online orders counted by window
  • Cut a block that fails without touching the others

Restaurant Ads Creative

How the creative gets built

Dish-led video

A short clip of the dish being plated, with the hours, the address and one clear request to book or order.

Offer ads

A specific weekday offer with a deadline, sent to people nearby who have already shown interest in dining out.

Event ads

A promotion for a single night, such as a tasting or a live music set, tracked to the reservations it creates.

Catering and group ads

A targeted push for offices and groups, with a request form that routes straight to the catering inbox.

What I Set Up Before Launch

Tracking installed before any ad runs

Before the first campaign goes live, I install conversion tracking on the reservation link, the online order button and every phone number on the page, and I test each one from a phone. If a booking cannot be traced to a campaign, it does not count as a campaign result, and the readout says so.

Call tracking gives each campaign its own number, so a call from a menu ad can be matched to the ad that drove it.

Restaurant Marketing Ideas

Campaigns that fit a dining room

Restaurant owners often hear that they should advertise everywhere at once. A dining room has a radius, a set of hours and a limited number of seats, so the useful question is which campaign reaches the guests who can actually come in the next few days.

Local search ads, social ads aimed at a radius around the room, and a retargeting ad for people who viewed the menu are the three formats I start with. Each one is chosen for a block, not for the whole brand.

Restaurant Advertising Examples

Process proof, with no client case claimed

I have not run a restaurant advertising campaign for a client, and I do not claim one. What I can show you is the setup I use on every account: the tracking, the daypart split, the readout and the account ownership. Those parts stay the same whether the campaign sells lunch, brunch or a private dinner.

The live work below is the closest I have, and it is a different trade. Ask me for the setup walkthrough and I will show you the exact tracking I would install for your reservations.

Advertising Rules for Food

Rules I work within for restaurants

Food ads carry platform rules on alcohol, health claims and promotions, and some local rules affect how an offer can be worded. Those limits change the copy, so I check them before any ad goes live.

I treat them as marketing considerations only. Whether an ad meets your licensing and local rules is a call for you and your counsel, and I will not tell you an ad is compliant.

  • Alcohol and promotion wording checked before launch
  • Health and nutrition claims kept out of ad copy
  • Platform policy on food and delivery reviewed
  • Your licensing rules are your call and your counsel's

How I Report to an Owner

The one-page readout I send you

Every month you get one page: spend by daypart, reservations and online orders counted separately, the cost of each one and the campaigns that produced them. Where a booking cannot be traced, the page says so rather than guessing.

The readout reads like a ledger, so you can check it against your own point of sale in an afternoon.

How a Campaign Runs

The steps from setup to a stop rule

  1. Step 01

    Read the current spend

I review the accounts, the audiences and the tracking you already have, and send a written read before you pay anything.

  2. Step 02

    Trace the bookings first

Reservations, orders and calls are traced to a campaign before any new money goes out.

  3. Step 03

    Test one block

Each campaign starts with one slow block and a small budget, and it grows only after its bookings are traced.

  4. Step 04

    Stop rule in writing

The result that ends a campaign is written down before launch, so no spend runs on hope.

Restaurant Advertising Cost

What moves the budget

I quote a fixed price for a written scope after I have looked at your accounts and the shifts you want to fill. A single-location lunch push and a multi-concept group program are different jobs, so a price list would be wrong for most of the owners who ask.

Ad platform fees are separate from my work and go straight to the platform on your card, so you can see both lines.

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we ended up working with Justin for some AI consulting on how to structure our operations. He laid out a clear plan, didn't overcomplicate it, and we've been running smoother since. Good fit for a service business. He knows Las Vegas and he knows this stuff.

Justin joined our team a few months before opening to replace a marketing agency that wasn’t performing. He stepped up fast. Within weeks he launched a fully redesigned website with new brand guidelines, built and delivered our marketing plan and AI strategy, and helped implement our system architecture so we could open on time. Since then, he’s made several critical enhancements to the site that helped us generate revenue in our first month. His engagement was supposed to end at opening, but he became such an integral part of our leadership team that we kept him on to help evolve our marketing and tech strategy as we grow. He’s easy to work with, pushes back when it matters, and moves easily between strategy, delivery, and operations depending on what’s needed. If you’re looking for a deeply experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated marketing, AI, or technology consultant, I highly recommend Justin Harris AI Consulting.
