Duda Developer

A Duda site inherited with no documentation

Duda is a website platform built mainly for agencies, and it is widely used by them. An agency can build many client sites in one account, apply its own branding and hand clients a simple editor. That suits agencies, and it is also why the owner of a Duda site often does not hold the account the site lives in.

The owners and agencies who contact me describe a handover problem. The person who built the site has left. The Duda account belongs to the agency or a former freelancer. There is no record of how the pages were put together, which widgets were used, or what the forms connect to. A change is needed, and nobody knows where to start.

Duda Agency Maintenance

The agency side

Agencies come to me from the other side. They have a client's Duda site to maintain and want a second pair of hands who can document it and keep it running without dropping it.

In both cases the first job is the same: find out what is there and write it down, with dates, so the next person can read it. That record is the most useful thing I hand over.

Duda Website Design

One developer, written down

I am Justin Harris. I have worked with Las Vegas businesses for fourteen years and I do the work myself. My portfolio contains no site I can name as Duda, so I will not claim one. What it shows is two full websites I built and run, and brand and content projects.

The way I work on those is how I work on Duda: read first, document, and keep the owner in control.

For a Duda site that means asking in writing who owns the account and how the site could be handed to the client.

An owner at work in a modern office
  • A written record of every page, widget and form
  • Account ownership confirmed in writing
  • A handover document for the client or agency
  • A recommendation on staying or moving

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we ended up working with Justin for some AI consulting on how to structure our operations. He laid out a clear plan, didn't overcomplicate it, and we've been running smoother since. Good fit for a service business. He knows Las Vegas and he knows this stuff.

Justin joined our team a few months before opening to replace a marketing agency that wasn’t performing. He stepped up fast. Within weeks he launched a fully redesigned website with new brand guidelines, built and delivered our marketing plan and AI strategy, and helped implement our system architecture so we could open on time. Since then, he’s made several critical enhancements to the site that helped us generate revenue in our first month. His engagement was supposed to end at opening, but he became such an integral part of our leadership team that we kept him on to help evolve our marketing and tech strategy as we grow. He’s easy to work with, pushes back when it matters, and moves easily between strategy, delivery, and operations depending on what’s needed. If you’re looking for a deeply experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated marketing, AI, or technology consultant, I highly recommend Justin Harris AI Consulting.

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we reached out to Justin for some AI consulting advice on where our service business could actually use automation. He was straightforward about what made sense and what didn't. Ended up being a useful conversation. Knew Justin before he started building AI systems for businesses, and watching what he's put together is genuinely impressive. He built out an AI automation setup for my website in Las Vegas and it changed how we handle leads completely. The guy actually runs this stuff himself, so he knows what works.

Why one developer

A solo developer who documents can pick up a site that nobody else understands. Ask any developer who owns the account, what is recorded about the site and how they would hand it back.

Duda Website Documentation

What I write down about a Duda site

The record I produce has five parts: every page with its address and purpose, every widget and what it does, every form with where it sends messages, every integration, and the account, domain and email details.

It runs to a few pages and is written for someone who has never opened the site. Agencies use it for client handover, and owners use it to know what they hold.

Who I work with on Duda

Two kinds of client reach me. Owners who inherited a Duda site from an agency or freelancer that is no longer around, and agencies that have a client on Duda and want a second developer who documents everything.

For owners, the goal is control: know what you hold and be able to hand it to the next person. For agencies, the goal is a site that does not depend on one person's memory. Either way, I start with a read of the site and send it to you the same day.

Duda Developer Platform Limits

What the platform cannot do

Duda is good at what it is built for: managed sites with a simple editor and team tools. It is less suited to custom logic, deep integrations or content that has to be structured in a particular way.

When a site needs those, I say so, and I plan the move to WordPress or another platform with redirects. If the site does not need them, there is no reason to move, and I tell you that as well. My WordPress page covers the other route.

I never recommend a move to make a bigger job. The scope stays the size the site needs, and the price is fixed once it is written down. If a smaller fix does the work, that is the one I propose first, even when it means less work for me.
