BigCommerce Developer

A BigCommerce store where costs grow and reporting does not

BigCommerce is a hosted store platform with a lot built in: product options, discounts, multiple currencies, a large catalog structure. For a merchant with real complexity that is a strength. It also means decisions made early, such as the theme, the app stack and how products are organized, are hard to unwind later.

The merchants who contact me are usually at one of two points. Either the store is working and costs have crept up, with theme customizations, app subscriptions and a developer retainer all billing separately, or they are wondering whether to move to something else and cannot get a straight comparison.

In both cases there is a reporting gap. The owner has revenue figures and cannot see which pages, campaigns or product groups produce orders. I deal with that first, since a replatform decision made without it is a guess.

BigCommerce Developer Services Las Vegas

One developer who explains the options

I am Justin Harris. I have worked with Las Vegas businesses for fourteen years and I do the work myself. My portfolio contains no BigCommerce store, so I will not claim one. It shows full websites I built and run, tracking that follows a lead from the first click to a booking, and brand and content work.

That process is what I bring to a store.

The advice I give is plain. I look at the store, the theme and the apps, I tell you what a move would cost in work and risk, and I tell you if staying is the better call.

  • The store account is in your name
  • A written comparison before any replatform
  • Orders and drop-offs tracked end to end
  • Redirects planned before any move

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we ended up working with Justin for some AI consulting on how to structure our operations. He laid out a clear plan, didn't overcomplicate it, and we've been running smoother since. Good fit for a service business. He knows Las Vegas and he knows this stuff.

Justin joined our team a few months before opening to replace a marketing agency that wasn’t performing. He stepped up fast. Within weeks he launched a fully redesigned website with new brand guidelines, built and delivered our marketing plan and AI strategy, and helped implement our system architecture so we could open on time. Since then, he’s made several critical enhancements to the site that helped us generate revenue in our first month. His engagement was supposed to end at opening, but he became such an integral part of our leadership team that we kept him on to help evolve our marketing and tech strategy as we grow. He’s easy to work with, pushes back when it matters, and moves easily between strategy, delivery, and operations depending on what’s needed. If you’re looking for a deeply experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated marketing, AI, or technology consultant, I highly recommend Justin Harris AI Consulting.

After going back and forth on whether to bring in outside help, we reached out to Justin for some AI consulting advice on where our service business could actually use automation. He was straightforward about what made sense and what didn't. Ended up being a useful conversation. Knew Justin before he started building AI systems for businesses, and watching what he's put together is genuinely impressive. He built out an AI automation setup for my website in Las Vegas and it changed how we handle leads completely. The guy actually runs this stuff himself, so he knows what works.

BigCommerce Developer Process

How a job runs

Every job has the same steps.

  1. Step 01

    Read the store

Orders, apps, theme and costs, set out in a one-page summary.

  2. Step 02

    Agree the scope

Written scope and date on one page.

  3. Step 03

    Work on a copy

Changes go on a duplicate theme or a sandbox so the store keeps selling.

  4. Step 04

    Test the purchase

Test orders with each payment method and a discount code.

  5. Step 05

    Publish and report

Launch, then a monthly report of visits, orders and drop-off points.

BigCommerce Developer Cost

What moves the price

BigCommerce Developer Pricing varies with the job. How much does a BigCommerce developer cost? I quote a fixed price for a written scope after a look at the store. Affordable BigCommerce work is the right-sized job, not a low quote that grows.

Best BigCommerce Developer Las Vegas

How to choose one

Ask who owns the store account. Ask what the developer would do if staying put were the right answer. Ask to see a live store they built. Ask how they would report on orders.

A developer who only recommends moving, or only recommends staying, is selling. I give you the table, and the call is yours.

A business owner reviewing work on a phone

BigCommerce Developer Reporting

What I look at in the numbers first

Before any recommendation I want to see how orders arrive. I pull three months of orders by product and by traffic source, then set them next to the paid apps and the monthly bills. This shows quickly which parts of the store are doing real work.

Two patterns turn up often. In the first, a store pays for apps that repeat features already built into BigCommerce, such as discount rules or product options. Removing them cuts cost and page weight with no loss.

In the second, the catalog has grown unevenly, with similar products under different names and categories that overlap, so buyers and search engines cannot tell what is what. Cleaning that costs far less than a move.

BigCommerce Catalog Cleanup

What a cleanup finds

Only when both of those are in order do I talk about changing platforms. If a move is right, the table above is the starting point, and the redirect map and test orders go in the scope before work starts. If it is not, you will have a store that costs less to run and a report you can read.

I put all of this in plain writing so you can show it to your accountant or a second developer and have them check my work. A recommendation you cannot verify is the same problem that brought you to me in the first place.

Who Hires Me for BigCommerce

The merchants I work with

Typical clients are specialty and wholesale-style merchants with a catalog large enough that a simple template store stopped fitting. They are often owners or operations managers, not developers, and they want someone who can explain the store in plain terms.

Some arrive from an agency relationship that ended badly, with the theme in the agency's account. I help get the store under your ownership and document what is in it. Others have heard a replatform pitch and want a second opinion before spending. That is a job I take gladly, because the honest answer is sometimes to stay.
